Damaraland Camp

Wilderness Safaris Damaraland Camp is an inspirational alliance of the local tribal partnership. The Damaraland Lodge offers vistas of the surrounding desert plateaus, ravines and the Brandberg Mountains as a backdrop. The lodge in the Torra Conservancy is built in a way that is environmentally sound & offers luxury why blending into is surroundings.

The Wilderness camp has 11 thatched chalets which are raised to give full advantage to the views. The central area of the lodge has a bar, swimming pool and a large lounge with a fireplace. The open campfire and boma area is a great place to have evening meals and watch the stars.

The surrounding desert is home to the rare desert elephant which frequents the area along the Haub stream. The main attractions of the lodge are its unique setting amongst Welwitschia ( living fossil ) plants and the desert Elephant. In the evening stargazing is at its best in the worlds oldest desert.

Morning and afternoon safari drives reveal the dramatic scenery and fascinating wildlife of the region. The desert-adapted elephant is the highlight of the area, although the rainfall and Huab River play a significant influence on their movement.

Learn about the unique culture of the local tribe, which include Nama-Damara, Herero, Owambo, and the displaced Riemvasmaak Ers of South Africa. This event allows you to engage with these communities courteously and it also includes a visit to a local farm at either Fontaine Pos or De Riet.

Study more about the early geological history of Damaraland as well as about the novel plants and reptiles that have superbly adjusted to this desert area. Damaraland is famous for its rock art, and guests can take a day drive to visit the artists of eternities past who are on request, and there is an extra charge.
